Iris Classification (Bearded)

AB Arilbred Oncocyclus & regelia species crossed with other bearded iris.

BB - Border Bearded - Stalks from 41 cm (16 inches) to 70 cm (28 inches) are short TBs.

IB - Intermediate Bearded - Stalks from 41 cm (16 inches) to 70 cm (28 inches) are the result of crossing SDBs and TBs.  IBs often show their dwarf ancestry and most are infertile.

MDB - Miniature Dwarf Bearded - Stalks from 5 cm (2 inches) to 20 cm (8 inches) tall.

MTB- Miniature Tall Bearded - Stalks16 inches to 26 inches with very dainty small flowers.

SDB - Standard Dwarf Bearded - Stalks 21 cm (8 inches) to 40 cm (15 inches)

TB - Tall Bearded - Stalks over 27 inches (68 cm) tall

Iris Classification (Beardless)

Spurias (SPU) 2 to 5 feet in height and elegant, and have very attractive foliage. The shape of the bloom often suggests orchids and the colors range from white and yellow through blue, wine and brown, often with bright yellow signals

Siberians (SIB) - Need cold and wet conditions to perform well. The blooms are mostly blue, violet and white with large falls and smaller standards, grow to a height of 2 to 4 feet

Japanese (JI) - Require a slightly acid soil blooms are usually huge, ruffled and flat in form; some are marbled with gray or white blooming a month after the TBs.

Louisianas (LA) - Native to the American Gulf Coast require soil that is somewhat acidic and wet, blooms have very wide petals and open, showing brightly colored style-arms and sharp signal-crests

Pacific Coast Natives (PCN), or Californicae (CA) - Intolerant of the climatic conditions of all but the far western area of the country. The exhibit graceful and dainty flowers and are 1-2 feet high.

localcolor  Neglecta - Blue or purple bi-tones with standards the lighter tone - 'Local Color'
 Dinky Circus Plicata - Stippled, dotted, or stitched margin colors on falls of a lighter color 'Dinky Circus'
breathtaking  Self - Standards and falls are the same color   'Breathtaking'
bumbleBdee Variegata - Yellow or near yellow standards with darker falls of brown or purple - 'Bumblebee Deelight'
